إنه الخطيب والشاعر مزهر الزيدي الملقب بالشاعر العلوي لكثرة ما يمدح ويصدح إشادة بآل البيت النبوي وبأمير المؤمنين علي خاصة وأعجب ما فيه أنه عندما تستمع إليه في مجلسه يتدفق وهو على منبره في مناقب بيت النبوة كالسيل المنحدر وما جرى عليهم بأسلوب شائق وعندما ينظم الشعر يكون عن عفو الخاطر وفيض السليقة ودفق التسديد العلوي بحيث كان في طوعه أن ينظم خطب الإمام علي شعراً وخير مثال على هذا قصيدته "الشقيقية" التي اقتبسها من خطبة الإمام المسماة بالاسم نفسه.
إن من يقرأ قصائده يجد أنها فيض على لسانه لما حوته من دقة تضمين وموسيقا محققة للإيقاع المتوائم مع قدسية الممدوح وكانت قصائده الأولى وجدانية شخصية ثم اتجهت اتجاهاً دينياً في حب الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وآله بعدها اختص بمدح الإمام علي لذا لقب بالعلوي وبخادم أمير المؤمنين.
