تتناول مسرحية "عشاء مع أصدقاء" ببساطة وعمق العلاقات الزوجية في مأزق منتصفها، انها مسرحية تغوص بسخرية ثاقبة في الاحزان الزوجية المسكوت عنها والتي تتسلل الينا في منتصف العمر، وتتناول حالة المراجعة الذاتية وإعادة النظر.. التي تنتابنا عندما ندرك أن الزمن يمر بنا ويكاد يتخطانا وأن كثيراً من الخيارات التي كانت متاحة لنا في وقت ما لم تعد الان كذلك.
المسرحية تتناول حياة ميرفت ومراد زوجان في أوائل الاربعينات، يختار مراد الطلاق بعد 12 سنة من الزواج لانه اكتشف بانها ليست الحياة التي يتمناها وانه كان يحاول طوال السنوات الماضية الحفاظ على هذا الزواج الا انه لم يعد قادراً أكثر من ذلك. فهل هي أزمة منتصف العمر أم مراهقة متأخرة أم بالفعل لم يكن هناك توافق بينهما منذ البداية على حد تعبير مراد وأن زوجته تظاهرت بعدم رؤية كل العلامات والشواهد التي تشير الى ذلك. علاقة زوجية دامت لمدة 12 سنة خالية من الحوار والتفاهم..علاقة يخيم عليها الشعور بالوحدة بالرغم من تواجدهما سويا تحت سقف بيت واحد. يقول مراد بانه كان يمثل السعادة حتى يظهر بمظهر الازواج السعداء ولكنه يشعر الان بالشجاعة لانه استطاع ان يتخذ قراره بتغيير حياته ويكسر نموذج التحايل على الواقع الذي سار عليه الاجداد والاباء والامهات من قبل فهم يتحايلون على واقعهم.. عاشوا خمسين سنة في -هم وغم- بسبب خوفهم من تغيير حياتهم والاعتراف بما يريدون....فهل هي بالفعل أزمة منتصف العمر؟ وهل هناك خيار أخير أو نهائي؟ هذا ما تقوله نهاية مسرحية عشاء مع أصدقاء.
