من هذا المنطلق، يتناول هذا الكتاب مفهوم النظر في ثقافة الفكر الجمالي، والعمل الفني نفسه بين النظر والنظرية، ودور النظر في التأسيس الأنطولوجي للعمل الفني، وما يترتب عن النظر عندما يصبح معرفةً وفكراً.
فعندما يصنع المفهوم العمل الفني، يؤكد قدرة النظر على أن يَصنع النظرية، لأنه ما عاد مكتفياً بالإبصار، بل يشمل أيضاً عمليات إنتاجية وذهنية داخل الآلة العصبية، على نحو ما ظهر في نظريات الإدراكيين، أو في مخابر فيزيولوجيي العين والجهاز العصبي، أو حتى في نظرية اللون والضوء.
