هذا الكتاب يتناول بالشرح والتفصيل فن الأهازيج الشعبية في منطقة الخليج والجزيرة العربية فقد عرف العرب في منطقة الخليج والجزيرة العربية الأهازيج ، مثلهم مثل بقية شعوب الأرض ، وقد تنوعت الأهازيج الشعبية ومثَّلت جميع الحالات الإنسانية بكل تنوعاتها وتقلباتها ؛ فقد عبَّر الإنسان في الخليج والجزيرة العربية عن مشاعر الحب والفرح والغضب والحزن ، والسعادة والشكوى ، بالأهازيج التي ينظمها ويردِّدها في المناسبات المختلفة ، وظلت تتناقلها الأجيال بعد ذلك وتضيف إليها من تجاربها وخبرتها ما يغذيها ويدعمها.
وقد قسَّم المؤلف الكتاب إلى تمهيد وفصلين وخاتمة ؛ خصَّص التمهيد لشرح مصطلح الأهازيج ، وبيَّن أصلها اللغوي ، كما استعرض تاريخ الأهزوجة في التراث العربي ومسمياتها المختلفة ، مع التمثيل لمختلف الأشكال الشعرية التي عرفها العرب والتي يمكن أن تندرج تحت ما يُعرف اليوم بالأهازيج الشعبية.
وفي الفصل الأول تناول الأنماط الشعرية التي اُستخدمت في الأهازيج الشعبية ومثَّل لها ببعض النماذج. وفي الفصل الثاني تناول أنواع الأهازيج الشعبية وقسَّمها إلى قسمين : الأهازيج البحرية ، والأهازيج البرية ؛ ثم شرح كل نوع ومثَّل له ببعض النماذج. ثم لخصَّ في الخاتمة أهم نتائج البحث ، وأتبعَ ذلك بثبت للمراجع والمصادر.
