إن علم النحو من أقدم علوم العربية وضعاً، وأسماها قدراً، وأنفعها أثراً، به يستقيم اللسان، ويحسن البيان، وتسلم من التحريف لغة القرآن الكريم وسنّة النبي العدنان.
ولم يكد هذا العلم ينشأ حتى تنامى وتزايد، واختلفت فيه الآراء، وتعددت المدارس، وكثرت المذاهب، وكُتب في ذلك المطولات والمختصرات والشروح والحواشي، نظماً ونثراً، فحفظ التاريخ منها الكثير وأهمل الكثير.
ومما لا شك فيه أن "الألفية" لابن مالك هي أوفى هذه المؤلفات حظَّاً، حيث تناولها علماء العربية قديماً وحديثاً وبالدراسة والتدريس والشرح والتلخيص، وحولوها إلى نثر، وقاموا بإعراب أبياتها وإستخراج نكتها في شروح وحواشي جاوزت المئة، فغدت "الألفية" بذلك أهم المنظومات النحوية وأكثرها ذيوعاً وشيوعاً.
ولعل من أهم شروح هذه الأرجوزة وأوسعها "شرح المرادي" - كتابنا هذا - الذي لا ينازع في أصالته ولا يضارع في عراقته، حيث أكثر فيه المؤلف من ذكر الخلافات والآراء النحوية مع أدلتها، رغبة في إستكناه الحقيقة وبلوغ الراجح منها، فأثرى بذلك "الألفية".
وأكثر فيه من النقول عن الآخرين، فحفظ بذلك نصوصاً وأسماء لكتب ضلت طريقها إلينا.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب، اعتنى بتحقيقه الأستاذ أحمد عزوز حيث قام بتحقيق هذا السفر الجليل معتمداً على نسختين، وقام بترقيم الآيات القرآنية، مخرّج الأحاديث النبوية؛ كما ترجم الأعلام الواردة أسماؤهم في النص، وضبط متن "الألفية" والشواهد القرآنية والحديثية والشعرية ضبطاً كاملاً.
