الرسالة الحميدية في حقيقة الديانة الإسلامية وحقيقة الشريعة المحمدية، كتاب بارز في المؤلفات التي ظهرت في القرن التاسع عشر، في فترة استعادة الفكر الإسلامي لأصوله، والتيقن من أصالته، ومواجهته للتحديات التي برزت في الغرب أمام الدين والإيمان ويندر أن نعثر على كتاب يشبه الرسالة الحميدية في تناوله لموضوعه، ولعل أقرب الكتب إليه موضوعاً وزمناً: رسالة التوحيد للإمام الشيخ محمد عبده، ورسالة الرد على الدهريين للإمام جمال الدين الأفغاني، إذ تجمع الرسالة الحميدية بين عمق كتاب الشيخ عبده في دفاعه عن العقيدة الإسلامية، وحماس الإمام الأفغاني في صد الدعوات التي تهدد الإيمان.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك، وفي سبيل الإحاطة بالمشروع الكبير الذي انطوت عليه الرسالة الحميدية، نذكر بعض بعض الآراء الأخرى، فالباحث فهمي جدعان يرى: "أن المتأمل في كل وجوه المشروع الذي أنجزه حسين الجسد لا يملك إلا أن يعجب بطموح هذا الفكر المفكر الشامي وبجرأته التي لا تعرف الحدود... "ويضيف جدعان: "والذي لا يمكن أن يرضي العلم في مشروع حسين الجسد هو في كل الأحوال تصوره للعلم ذاته.. فهو عملياً لم ينظر إلى العلم إلا باعتباره معارف محددة تترواح ما بين اليقين والظن والاحتمال. فالطابع الاحتمالي الظني لقضايا العلم أو لعدد كبير منها هو أمر لا يمكن إنكاره لكن الذي يصعب تبريره للجسد من وجهة ثانية هو ظاهر تصوره أن العلم يظل علماً حتى ولو وضعت أحداث الطبيعة تحت القدرة والإدارة الإلهيتين فهذا التصور يعدي العلم من دعواه القائمة على أساس القول إن التفسير العلمي يقوم بذاته وإنه لا يجوز اللجوء فيه إلى قوى وقوانين خارجة عن موضوعاته".
