لماذا كانت هاتان الشخصيتان من العالم المستعمَر برغسونيَّتيْن ؟ لأي سبب وجدت الزنوجة السنغورية والإصلاحية الإسلامية الإقبالية، برغم اختلافهما، سنَدهما في البرغسونية ؟ يعود ذلك أولا إلى أن فلسفتهما، في الوقت الذي تبلورت فيه ما بين نهاية العقد الأول والثاني من القرن العشرين لدى إقبال وفي الثلاثينيات من القرن نفسه لدى سنغور، كان من الصعب أن تتفادى حينها الحوار مع فلسفة برغسون. والحقيقة أن ذلك راجعٌ إلى أن فلسفة برغسون، التي جعلت مهمتها تكمن في "التدخّل في الحياة، لإصلاحها أو تغييرها" ، قد كانت موضوعا " لإعجاب بالغ انتشر في فرنسا وأوروبا، بل في ما وراءَهما، حتى الحرب العالمية الثانية.
