يعتبر الأديب الإنكليزى "وليم سومرست موم" اليوم من قادة الأدب الواقعي، وهو من مواليد باريس (فرنسا)، عام 1874م. تميزت رواياته وقصصه القصيرة بسهولة السرد، وبساطة الأسلوب، وبوجهة نظر واقعية، ساخرة أحياناً: ألّف "موم" خلال حياته العديد من المؤلفات، إلا أن كتابه "رجل من غلاسكو" يعتبر من أشهر أعماله. وقد كتبه للأطفال، وفيه يسرد قصة رجل غريب الأطوار، يعيش في إسبانيا، ويدعى انه يسمع في الليلة التي يكتمل فيها مر القمر صوت رجل يضحك ويستغيث، ولكنه بعد اقترابه من مصدر الصوت وهو كوخ معزول في أحد كروم الزيتون التابعة للشركة التي يعمل بها، لا يجد أحداً، وإنما يجد فقط كوخاً قديماً تصدر من داخله أصواتاً غريبة وبعد بحثه وتقصيه على أصل هذا الكوخ يعلم أن صاحبه هو رجل مجنون متوفي منذ أكثر من عشرين سنة، وهكذا تبدأ القصة لمعرفة أسباب موت هذا الرجل. إن ما يميز هذه القصة التي بين أيدينا "رجل من غلاسكو" هو أنها تضم نص القصة باللغة الإنكليزية، وما يقابلها باللغة العربية. كما تضم ملحقاً يحتوى على مجموعة من الأسئلة تساعد الطفل والناشئ على استيعاب المعلومات وتحرك فيه ملكة التفكير والبحث والاستنتاج.
