لم يكتنف الغموض قضية من القضايا الدولية التي حدثت في عصرنا الراهن، كما اكتنف قصة العدوان الثلاثي الآثم على مصر في عام 1956، فقد حرصت دول العدوان الثلاثي ومخابراتها أشد الحرص، على الإبقاء على سر "مؤامراتها" الثلاثية في طي الكتمان، وكانت لكل منها دوافع تختلف عن دوافع الدولة الأخرى، لهذا التضليل الذي بلغ بالمسئولين في قيادات هذه الدول، إلى حد القحة في الكذب، والافتئات على الواقع، وإلى حد تضليل شعوبهم، بل حتى زملائهم المشتركين في الحكم، وجاء هذا الكتاب الذي أضعه الآن بين أيدي القراء العرب، والذي لفت نظري إليه لترجمته الأستاذ محمد حسنين هيكل، رئيس تحرير الأهرام، فكشف النقاب عن خيوط جديدة، في تلك المؤامرة البارعة النسج والحياكة، وترك بصورة لا تقبل الشك ولا الجدال، الحقائق عارية، بعد أن دعمها بالأدلة، لتثبت أن بريطانيا وفرنسا وإسرائيل قد تآمرت معًا على مصر.
ونحن لا نقول، إن المؤلف كان منصفًا لمصر وقضيتها كل الإنصاف في كتابه، بل لعله كان متجنيًا عليها وعلى الحق والعدل في أكثر من مكان، وقد تناولنا تجنياته هذه بالرد والتعليق والنفنيد في الهوامش المنتشرة في الكتاب، ولكننا نقول، إن أهمية هذا الكتاب تتمثل في الأسرار الخفية المتعلقة بالمؤامؤة الثلاثية، والتي كشف عنها بصورة لا لبس فيها ولا إبهام، تاركًا لمن بعده الخيوط العريضة التي يستطيعون متابعة السير عليها، للوصول إلى الحقيقة الكاملة في موضوع المؤامرة.
ولقد راعيت جانب الأمانة والدقة في تعريب هذا الكتاب، بالرغم من اختلافنا مع مؤلفه في كثير من وجهات النظر، فهو بالرغم مما فيه من مآخذ، وهي كثر، جدير بأن يطلع عليه كل قارئ عربي، نظرًا لأهمية موضوعه من ناحية، ولخطورة الأسرار التي يكشف النقاب عنها، والتي تمهد الطريق لوضع تاريخ دقيق وصحيح عن مؤامرة السويس.
