يمهد هذا الكتاب لأصول النحو ببيان للعلاقة بينها وبين أصول الفقه، وأثر علم أصول الفقه في نشأة علم أصول النحو، ومنهجه، ومصطلحاته ثم أفردنا لكل أصل من أصول النحو الأربعة وهي: السماع، والاجماع، والقياس واستصحاب الحال حديثاً مفصلاً، مرتبة على هذا النحو، كما رتبها السيوطي دون نظر إلى حجم ما كتب في كل منها، بل كان النظر إلى أن كلا من السماع والإجماع يعتمدان على المنقول عن العرب والنحاة، والقياس واستصحاب الحال يعتمدان على المعقول ثم كانت الخاتمة عن كيفية الاستدلال عند تعارض الأصول.
