نبذة النيل والفرات: أصل هذا الكتاب هو بحث قدمه المؤلف لنيل درجة الدكتوراه زهو بعنوان "نظام الجملة في شعر المعلقات" ولأهمية هذا البحث ولشموله فقد اعتنى بإعادة طباعته من جديد، ولكن تحت عنوان جديد هو "مدخل إلى دراسة الجملة العربية" وجعله في قسمين، القسم الأول ضمنه مدخل تحدث فيه عن الأسس العامة، وتتبع فيه محاولات الباحثين في التقليد الغربي والعربي، وعلم اللغة الحديث وضع تعريف دقيق لمصطلح الجملة ثم قدم معايير وضوابط لتصنيف الجمل في أنماط، بعضها تقليدي غربي أو عربي، وبعضها مما جاء به علم اللغة الحديث وعنى بما هو صالح منها للإفادة منه في دراسة الجملة العربية، وعرض ذلك على نحو شديد الإيجاز يضبطها وييسر الإفادة منها. ثم عرض لأربعة من أهم المناهج الأجنبية في دراسة الجملة وتحليلها هي: منهج التحليل إلى المكونات المباشرة، ومنهج التحليل إلى الوحدات النحوية (المنهج التاجميمي) و"منهج التحويلي التوليدي"، ثم منهج التعلق النحوي ونظرية القدرة التركيبية للفعل وحرص على أن يذكر عقل كل منهج منها مآخذ اللغويين عليه، ولم يغفل الحديث عن اتجاهات البحث النحوي عند العرب. فرصد منها ثلاثة اتجاهات: أولها: الاتجاه النحوي القديم أو التقليدي عند النحاة القدماء ومن صدر عن منهجهم من المحدثين، واثنيها: اتجاه يربط النحو العربي القديم باتجاهات البحث اللغوي المعاصر أوروبا وأمريكا. وثالثها: اتجاه يعيد النظر في التراث النحوي والبلاغي القديم في ضوء نتائج البحث اللغوي المعاصر ويطور من هذا التراث نموذجاً جديداً للبحث اللغوي العربي. أما القسم الثاني من هذا المدخل فقد جعله لدراسة الجملة العربية في ضوء ما ورد من نظرات في القسم الأول، وقسمه إلى بابين الأول منهما للجملة البسيطة والثاني للجملة المركبة وتحدث في إطار الجملة البسيطة عن الجملة الأساسية اسمية وفعلية...
