عُني الإمام العلّامة الحافظ تقي الدين أحمد بن عبد الحليم ابن تيميّة الحنبلي رحمه الله تعالى بدراسة الفلسفة بمدارسها ومذاهبها دهراً من الزمان؛ وتصدَّى للرد على كثيرٍ من أباطيلها، ونقَدَ مقولات الفلاسفة في غير ما كتاب من كتبه المطبوعة.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا أثرٌ جديد من آثار ابن تيميّة التي خصّصها لمناقشة الفلاسفة في باب التوحيد، يُنشَر لأول مرة عن نسخةٍ خطيةٍ فريدةٍ توارث في أحد المجاميع الخطية العتيقة إلى أن عثرت عليها أيدي المنقّبِين في خزائن المخطوطات، وهذه النسخة بخطّ أحد تلامذة ابن تيمية، ونصُّها تامّ مكتمل.
وهذا الكتاب ثابت النسبة لمؤلفه، فهو من جُملة ما نَسَبَهُ إليه تلميذه البارّ العلاّمة شمس الدين ابن القيّم.
