وللشعراء مكانة خاصة في الكتاب فهو يبدأه بشعر معروف الرصافي وحكاية عن شاعرنا الكبير "محمود درويش"، وكان درويش "كروي" الهوى، يعشق سحرها ويتغزل في مهارات لاعبيها، وهو صاحب التعبير الشهير "كرة القدم أشرف الحروب"، كما يتناول حكايات عن شعراء العامية المصرية مع الكرة.
ويقول الكاتب: لا أعرف من روج لأكذوبة كراهية المثقفين لكرة القدم وتعاليهم عليها، عمومًا.. في هذا الكتاب قصص وحكايات عن كرة القدم فى حياة أدباء ومثقفي مصر والعالم.
