صلاح الدين الصَّفديّ هو صلاح الدين أبو الصَّفاء خليل بن أيبك بن عبد الله الألبَكِي الفاري الصَّفديّ الدِّمشقيّ الشَّافعيّ. (صفد، 696 هـ - دمشق، 10 شوَّال 764 هـ) وُلِدَ لواحدٍ من أمراء المماليك، في صفد سنة ستٍّ وتسعين وست مئة، ونشأ في أُسرة ثريَّة نشأةً مرفَّهة، فحفظ القرآن العزيز في صغره، ثُمَّ طلب العلم، وبرع في النَّحو واللُّغة والأدب والإنشاء، وكتب الخطّ المنسوب، وقرأ الحديث وكتبه. وتعانى صناعة الرَّسم على القماش، ثُمَّ حُبِّب إليه الأدب فولِعَ به، وذكر عن نفسه أنَّ أباه لم يمكِّنه من الاشتغال حتى استوفى عشرين سنة، فطلب بنفسه وقال الشعر الحسن ثُمَّ أكثر جداً من النَّظم والتَّرسل والتَّواقيع.
شيوخه
أخذ الصَّفدي عن العديد من العُلماء في صفد ودمشق والقاهرة وحلب ومن هؤلاء:
وما من شكٍّ في أنَّ الصَّفدي كان محظوظاً بالاستماع إلى هؤلاء العلماء وقراءة كتبهم عليهم، وروايتها إجازة منهم، ممَّا جعله قادراً على الإفادة بالجامع الأمويّ، والتحديث بدمشق وحلب وغيرها، حتى سمع منه أشياخه كالذَّهبيّ والحسينيّ وابن كثير وغيرهم.
وظائفه
تولَّى الصَّفديّ الكثير من الوظائف الإداريَّة والماليَّة في القاهرة ودمشق وصفد وحلب والرحبة، ومن هذه الوظائف:

تلكَ خُطوةٌ مُهمَّةٌ، والخُطوةُ الأُخرى هي إظهارُ هذهِ الرِّسالةِ في عالَم المطبوعاتِ، وعَدمُ إبقائِها حَبِيسةَ الأَرفُفِ والمخطُوطات؛ إذ بِنشْرِها العِلمُ المَكنُونُ فيها، ويَظهرُ اسمُ الباحثِ، ويبرُزُ جهدُهُ وإجتهادُه، فإنْ كان قدْ أَخلَصَ في عَملِه زادَهُ نشرُ هذا العَملِ قُوَّةً وعِلماً، وإنْ كانَ غيْرَ ذلكَ عَمِلَتْ مَعاوِلُ النَّقِد عَمَلَها في رسالتِهِ، فَصَحَّحتْ وصَوَّبتْ، وأرشَدَتهُ لمكامِنِ الخَطأِ والخَطَلِ في عَملِه وبَحثِه.
وهذه السِّلْسِلةُ تُصدِرُها دارُ النَّوادرِ اللُّبنانيةُ لخدمةٍ هذا الهدَفِ، ولإثراءِ هذا التَّوَجُّهِ، سَائلِينَ الله تعالى المعُونةَ في ذلكَ، وشاكِرينَ كُلَّ باحِثٍ كُلَّ باحِثٍ تَوَاصَلَ معنا، وتَعَاوَنَ مَعَ تَحكِيمِنا لِعَمَلِهِ، وصَبَر عَلى شُرُوطِنا في نَشرِهِ وطَبعِهِ.
