تقدم لنا مسرحية العاصفة شخصية بروسبرو، وهو إنسان ذو أبعاد أسطورية؛ إذ يثير عاصفة قبالة جزيرة تكون نتيجتها أن تقع السفينة التى تحمل أعداءه في قبضته، وهو ينشد تأديبهم؛ كما يسعى إلي إيجاد زوج يليق بابنته. وكذلك يسعى إلي العودة إلي دوقيته في ميلانو التى اغتصبها منه أخوه. وهو ليس علي شاكلة آلهة الأساطير؛ إذ إنه يسيطر علي الأحداث منذ البداية، كما يسيطر علي أقدار الشخصيات التى تتفاعل معها. وإذ يحقق غاياته يتخلي عن مكانته كشخصية أسطورية، وبذلك يقيم الحجة علي أن أثمن ما في الإنسان هو إنسانيته. وينصرف الاهتمام الدرامي في هذه المسرحية عن آلهة الأساطير لكي يركز علي الإنسان. فالإنسان قادر علي أن يبدع عالما جديدا طريفا.
