مسرحية أسطورية صنعها شيكسبير، تحكى عن أن ملك صقلية اتهم زوجته بالزنا وإنجاب طفلة ليست من صلبه. نفي ابنته إلي أرض قاحلة، فتلقفها أحد الرعاة حتى كبرت. ثار الملك ضد فتوى أبوللو التى تضمنت براءة الزوجة والابنة المفقودة، وأن يعيش الملك بدون وريث لعرشه حتى تعود الابنة المفقودة. فمات ابنه وفقدت زوجته وعيها وغابت عنه خمسة عشرة عاما . صارت ابنته فتاة جميلة، هام بحبها ابن ملك بوهيميا واستنكر أبوه الخطبة نظرا لأنها ابنة راعٍ ، فهرب الحبيبان إلى صقلية، حيث كان ملكها وطلب الغفران من أبوللو بعد معاناته أشد العذاب؛ فالتأم شمل الأسرة بحيث عادت ابنته وخطيبها كما عادت زوجته إليه. وهكذا انتصر أبوللو.
