في عام 2004 طلبت شركة Fabrica من مركز أبحاث بنيتون المبتكرة من مؤلف الكتاب جيمس موليسون، ابتكار فكرة للمشاركة في مجال حقوق الطفل فوجد نفسه كما يقول "أفكر في غرفة نومي: دورها المهم في أثناء طفولتي وكم كانت تعكس من كنت وماذا امتلكت" وبات واضحاً لديه أنه من الممكن معالجة بعض الحالات المعقدة، والقضايا الاجتماعية التي تؤثر في مرحلة الطفولة من خلال النظر في غرف نوم الأطفال في الظروف المختلفة...
وبناءً على ما تقدم طاف موليسون أرجاء العالم بدءاً من الأمريكيتين ومروراً بأوروبا وأفريقيا ووصولاً الى آسيا، وكان في كل مرة يقوم بتصوير بورتريه للطفل ثم صورة لغرفة نومه، ومقابلته شخصياً ثم جمع تلك المادة مع التعليق عليها في كتاب أسماه "حيث ينام الأطفال".
هذا، وقد جاء الكتاب باللغتين العربية والانكليزية تعميماً للفائدة في جميع أنحاء العالم. وقد أرفق المؤلف كل حالة بصورة للطفل ولغرفة نومه، ليعرف كل واحد منا أن أبسط الأشياء في الحياة يمكن لها أن تعمل دلالات كبيرة ولتفكر كل عائلة أين ينام أطفالها...
