حفل تاريخ العراق في العهد الملكي (1921 – 1958 م)، بالعديد من الوقائع والأحداث التاريخية المثيرة في الجوانب السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية، سواء عبر سِير وتاريخ قياداته وزعاماته السياسية أو عبر أنشطته الاقتصادية (الزراعية والصناعية والتجارية)، ومستوى وطبيعة تشكيلاته وتكويناته الاجتماعية الإثنية والعرقية.ولعل تاريخ اليهود في الموصل للمدة (1921 – 1952 م) يمثل أحد التشكيلات والتكوينات الاجتماعية لتاريخ العراق المعاصر حيث يرجع وجودهم واستقرارهم في العراق قديماً منذ عهد الامبراطورية الأشورية (745 – 612 ق. م) وعاصمتهم (نينوى)، بعد أن تم أسرهم وجلبهم الى شمال العراق، وقد أشارت بعض المصادر التاريخية إلى استمرار وجودهم بعد الفتح العربي الإسلامي للموصل، وسكناهم الجانب الغربي من المدينة، في حارة شعبية خاصة بهم تسمى (محلة اليهود) المعروفة حالياً بـ (محلة الأحمدية)، وجميع سكانها هم من اليهود الشرقيون الذين غادروا فلسطين بعد السبي الآشوري، وكانوا يتكلمون لغة ولهجة أهل الموصل الدارجة التي عاشوا أرضها منذ القدم.إن دراسة تاريخ (يهود الموصل) إبان العهد الملكي، سيعين بلا شك الباحثين والمهتمين، على فهم واستيعاب طبيعة التشكيلات الاجتماعية السائدة فيها، وعلاقاتها المتنوعة والمتداخلة مع بعضها البعض، ضمن نسيج اجتماعي محافظ ومتسامح داخل قصبة المدينة القديمة في الموصل. ويمثل هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، نقلة نوعية في دراسة التاريخ الاجتماعي المعاصر للموصل وما حولها.
