يدور موضوع الكتاب حول علم الجينات والخارطة الجينية عموماً: الجينوم أو المجين والحمض النووي DNA.
وفي هذا السياق يحاول المؤلف الربط بين علم الجينات والعلم الشرعي إيماناً منه بأن العلوم الشرعية ليست رهينة المساجد فقط، بل أن هذا العلم ومثله الدين ممثلاً بالقرآن والسُّنة صالحان لكل زمان ومكان. فيورد في المقدمة أن "هذا العلم على حداثة كشفه قد وجد له صدى في القرآن والسُّنة بإشارات عظيمة تدلل على وجوده مندرجاً ضمن ما يسمى بالتلميح وهذه الإشارات قد تناولت بعضاً منها ضمن هذه الدراسة".
ولأهمية البحث في علم الجينات في عالم اليوم يضع المؤلف دراسة متكاملة العناصر تضمنت مقدمة وأربعة فصول. جاء الفصل الأول كمدخل إلى علم الجينات، تعريفها، مصطلحاتها، علاقتها بالإسلام، إلى غير ذلك مما جاءت به نظرية دارون، ورأي الدين في استخدام الخلايا الجذعية (بين القبول والرفض) ... الخ. أما الفصل الثاني فجاء في الهندسة الوراثية والإستنساخ والموقف الشرعي من الهندسة الوراثية، ونقل وزراعة الأعضاء تبرعاً أو بيعاً، وكذلك رأي الدين من الهندسة الوراثية النباتية والحيوانية. ويتناول الفصل الثالث البصمة الوراثية والمعالجة الجينية، والموقف الشرعي من إثبات النسب أو نفيه عن طريق البصمة الوراثية، وكذلك الموقف الشرعي من التحسين الوراثي والتهجين الجيني. ويأتي الفصل الرابع والأخير في البحث عن اثر الجينات في كشف الجريمة، مع التعريف بالحرب البيولوجية والموقف الشرعي منها. وأخيراً خاتمة ونتائج البحث.
