كتاب ستيف كراوشو «نبض الشارع: تأثير الاحتجاجات والشغب»، يسلّط الضوء على بعض الاحتجاجات الأكثر شهرة من جميع أنحاء العالم، من ثورة عبد الغفار خان الذي كان الصنو المسلم للمهاتما غاندي وحليفه ضد الاستعمار البريطاني، في عشرينيات القرن الماضي، وحتى الاعتراض على منع المرأة من قيادة السيارة في السعودية قبل أن تتوقف المملكة عن هذا المنع أخيرا، مروراً بكل حركات الاحتجاج السلمي التي شهدها هذا العالم في هذا الوقت. لقد تمكن كراوشو في كتابه القصير هذا من جمع كل التحركات المهمة مثل ربيع براغ في ١٩٦٨ وثورة نقابة تضامن في بولندا في ثمانينات القرن الماضي وثورة السود ضد العنصرية في أميركا، وثورات الربيع العربي ولا سيما ثورتي سوريا ومصر، فضلاً عن التحركات السلمية في الصين وروسيا وغيرهما. وتميّزت هذه الثورات بحسّ الفكاهة والشجاعة والإبداع وتمكّنت من إحداث تغيير وصل في بعض البلدان إلى الإطاحة بأنظمة حديدية لم يتصوّر أحد أن تُفككها احتجاجات أدواتها بسيطة إلى هذا الحد.
