إن دراسة الرواية والوقوف على أهم محتوياتها الفكرية والإنسانية أمر ضروري وغاية تفرض نفسها على الواقع الفكري والأدبي والإسلامي، ولما كانت الرواية تهتم بالإنسان وتهتم بقضاياه وأموره الدقيقة، فإن دراسة الشخصية وعلاقاتها بعناصر البناء الأخرى، هي الوسيلة الوحيدة للوقوف على أهم هذه القضايا والموضوعات الإنسانية وعند ذلك نستطيع التعرف على مهمة الكاتب ومدى رؤيته للحياة بشكل عام، وذلك يرجع إلى أن الشخصية هي أحد عمد العمل الروائي ودعامة من دعائمه الأساسية، التي تقوم بأدوار هامة تساعد في تشكيل بنيته الموضوعية والفنية ويرجع أيضاً إلى أن الشخصية تؤدي إلى توضيح الحقيقة الفكرية لدى الكاتب ومن ثم توضيح نزعته الاجتماعية والسياسية والدينية، حيث يحركها الكاتب، في المجال الذي يتوافق مع منزعه، وينطقها بما يود أن ينطق هو به بل ويجعلها تفكر بالطريقة التي يفكره وبها.
وقد وقع اختياري على دراسة الشخصية الروائية عند الأستاذ علي أحمد باكثير والدكتور نجيب كيلاني.
واعتمدت في دراستي على المنهج التحليلي النقدي، فتتبعت أعمال الكابتين ووقفت على أهم القضايا والموضوعات المطروحة في رواياتهما، حتى يتسنى لي الحكم على الشخصية ودلالتها الفنية والموضوعية وعلاقتها بعناصر البناء الأخرى. ولأن الفارق ليس محدوداً بين الأستاذ باكثير والدكتور كيلاني، من ناحية الكثرة ومن ناحية الموضوعات والقضايا المطروحة، حيث تصب في جانب الدكتور كيلاني كماً وإنتاجاً، فقد بدأت خطواتي بدراسة كل عمل روائي على حدة، ووضعت من خلال التحليل والاستقراء مسميات خاصة لكل شخصية بناء على الظاهرة أو القضية التي تدور في فلكها هذه الشخصية، وأتاح ذلك لي المزيد من التقصي للحقائق والموضوعات ووضع كل شخصية روائية في مكانها المناسب حسب معطياتها الفكرة والنظرية.
