تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إبراز ما قدّمه أبو عثمان الجاحظ في المجال السيميائي، وذلك من خلال وصف نظام التواصل السيميولساني في كتاب الحيوان بأجزائه السبعة، ومقارنته بمعطيات النظرية السيميائية عند شارل سندرس بورس الأمريكي (Charles Sanders Peirce) بغرض تثمين جهود الجاحظ في هذا المضمار، لأنّ تتبعنا لهذا المجال المعرفي قد جعلنا ننتبه إلى إهمال بعض الدقائق في فكره من الناحية الفلسفية، وكذلك الجوانب التي يقترب فيها مع فكر بورس سيميائيا، أضف إلى هذا أنّ بعض الباحثين في المجال السيميائي والتواصلي غالبا ما ينطلقون من النظرية الغربية مهملين الأصول التأسيسية الواردة في التراث العبي لهذا العلم؛ خاصة عند تناولهم لجهود بورس السيميائية، فلإبراز هاتين القضيتين وغيرهما وإثبات ما أُهمل من مجهودات الجاحظ السيميائية والتواصلية؛ تأتي هذه الدراسة مستندة إلى الدراسات المتوفرة التي لفتت انتباهنا إلى فكرة السيمياء عنده خصوصا في كتاب الحيوان، حيث نذكر منها: (اللّغة والخطاب) لعمر أوكان، (المناحي الفلسفية عند الجاحظ) لعلي بوملحم، (الرؤية البيانية عند الجاحظ) لإدريس بلمليح، (السيميائيات العربية؛ قراءة في نصوص قديمة) و(علم الدلالة عند العرب، دراسة مقارنة مع السيمياء الحديثة) لعادل فاخوري، إلى جانب كتاب (السيمياء والتجريب عند الجاحظ. دراستان في النظرية والتطبيق) لمحمد حسن الربابعة…وغيرها من الدراسات التي زادت من اهتمامنا بمساهمات الجاحظ في التفكير السيميائي التواصلي مقارنة بنظرية بورس السيميائية.
