هذا أول كتابي لي عن إمبراطوريات الشرق، أختص به أول دولة التتار، ومؤسسها جنكيزخان، ولكن لكي نتكلم عن التتار، لابد في البداية نتكلم عن الدول الإسلامية المجاورة لتلك البقعة، التي انبعثت منه هذه الفئة من البشر التي علت في الأرض، فهاجت وماجت، واكتسحت أمامها القوي والضعيف من بلاد العالم الإسلامي وغيره، حتى وصلت أسيا الصغرى، وحاربت بايازيد الأول أحد أهم ملوك العثمانيين، فأسرته واحتلت بلاده، ولو أرادوا لأخذوا أوربا بأثرها، ولغيروا تاريخ وخريطة العالم بأثره.
لقد ظهرت تلك الدولة الغريبة الأطوار، في زمان هو بالضبط زمانها، ففي وقت الضعف تطفوا الشوائب، فبينما كانت الدولة الإسلامية في أشد أوقات تشرذمها، واقتتال أهلها مع بعضهم البعض، طمعاً في الحكم، وغفلة عن الدين، ظهر أمر تلك الشعوب المغولية، فانتشرت وتطورت وأرعدت وسادت في زمن قياسي، ليس بالقصير، ولكنه بالنسبة لم تحقق من سيطرتها وتملكها لتلك المساحة الشاسعة من العالم، وما وقع منها من تخريب ودمار، يعد في عمر الزمان قصير، وهو أمر يستحق الدراسة بالفعل.
