هذا "الديوان" كثيرون هم أولئك الذين كتبوا عن الإمام الحداد كتابات مختصرة، أو مقتطفات مجملة عن بعض جوانب حياته، وكثيرون هم أولئك الذين حاولوا أن يكتبوا عنه، ثم عدلوا عن تلك المحاولة إعترافاً منهم بالعجز عن الخوض في هذا الميدان الواسع الأطراف، والعوم في ذلك المحيط الذي لا ساحل له.
فإن الإمام الحداد رضي الله عنه لم يكن شخصاً عادياً لا في ترتبيته ونشأته، ولا في طفولته وشبابه، وكهولته وشيخوخته، ولا في تعلمه ودراسته وعبادته، ولا في شعره ونثره وكتابته، بل ولا في جميع جوانب حياته؛ فقد كان نموذجاً فريداً، ونادرة من نوادر الزمن، قريباً بعيداً، كائناً غير كائن، وحيداً فريداً في طريقه وقصده، غريباً في مجتمعه على كثرة الأُلاَّف في جانب وحده.
على أن الذين كتبوا عنه اقتصرت كتابتهم على القليل؛ والقليل جداً من أعماله الظاهرة فقط، ومع هذا فلم يوفوها جزءاً من حقها.
وتتجلى أسرار شخصية هذا الإمام في مؤلفاته القيمة، ومن أهمها - وكلها مهم - هذا "الديوان" الذي يحتوي على (150) قصيدة وأكثر، جمعت معظم بحور الشعر إن لم تكن كلها، وليس السر في هذه القصائد من حيث بلاغتها وتشبيهاتها، أو قوافيها وأوزانها، ولكنه سر غريب لا يتكلم عنه علماء البلاغة والبيان والبديع، وإنما يتكلم عنه أهله وقليل ما هم، إنه سر غريب يكمن فيما تحمله تلك القصائد بين أسطرها من شعور عجيب يسيطر على القارئ عند قراءته لها، فينقله إلى حالة لا يستطيع التعبير عنها، إنه سر عجيب يكمن فيما تحمله تلك القصائد من شجنات روحية كبيرة، تتفجر في داخل الإنسان عند قراءته لها، فتحدث تغييراً كبيراً، أو بالأصح تحسِّناً كبيراً بداخله، فيبدو أثره على ظاهره، إنه سر عجيب يبدو عندما يحدو الحادي بقصيدة من قصائد هذا "الديوان" في مجلس من المجالس فيتلون المجلس كله بلون القصيدة، إنه سر عجيب تحمله قصائد هذا "الديوان" يجعل القارئ يشعر بما لا يدع مجالاً للشك أن هذه القصائد علاقتها بالسماء أكثر من علاقتها بالأرض؛ لهذا قال الإمام الحداد رضي الله عنه: (من كان عنده هذا الديوان فلا يحتاج معه إلى غيره). فإلى قصائد هذا "الديوان" وكلماته، وأسراره ونفحاته...
