شهد تاريخ العرب الحديث أبان العهد العثماني دراسات عديدة لمؤرخين وباحثين عرب وأجانب، تناولوا فيها جوانب مختلفة من تاريخ العرب؛ سياسية؛ إقتصادية؛ إجتماعية؛ ثقافية وغيرها، ورغم ذلك لا تزال تاريخ أمتنا بحاجة لمزيد من الدراسة والبحث.
ولذلك تأتي هذه الدراسة - إلى جانب دراسات أخرى - لدراسة تاريخ الوطن العربي أبان العهد العثماني 1516- 1918 وتحديداً من الفتح العثماني إلى نهاية الحرب العالمية الأولى.
حيث ضم الكتاب أحد عشر فصلاً حاول فيها المؤلف تغطية التطورات والأحداث التاريخية التي مرت عليه وقد خصص الفصل الأول لدراسة الفتح العثماني للأقطار العربية، أما الفصل الثاني فعالج مسألة مهمة هي بروز كيانات سياسية أسرية حاولت إستغلال الأوضاع السياسية المضطربة في الدولة العثمانية بتشكيل حكومات شبه مستقلة في الولايات العربية.
في حين كرس الفصل الثالث لتتبع مراحل حركة الإصلاحات العثمانية منذ القرن الثامن عشر، وتوقف الفصل الرابع عند مرحلة مهمه من تاريخ العرب الحديث وهي مرحلة الغزو الفرنسي لمصر وبلاد الشام، وخصص الفصل الخامس لدراسة إصلاحاته "محمد علي باشا" في مصر في النواحي الإقتصادية والعسكرية.
أما الفصل السادس فتطرق إلى بروز ظاهرة الإستعمار، ومد النفوذ الإستعماري إلى الوطن العربي، الفصل السابع توقف عند حركات الإصلاح الديني التي ظهرت في المنطقة العربية، في حين درس الفصل الثامن النهضة العربية الحديثة، أما الفصل التاسع فقد خصص لدراسة تيار الحركة القومية العربية، ولأهمية موضوع الجامعة الإسلامية التي تبناها السلطان العثماني عبد الحميد الثاني فقد خصص الفصل العاشر لدراسة الأسباب التي دفعت السلطان العثماني لتأسيسها.
أما الفصل الأخير فعالج تطور الأوضاع السياسية على الساحة العربية أبان الحرب العالمية.
