"والآن أنا بلا مهمة، أكبر كل يوم، ولا أتقدم نحو شيء.. تماماً كما في شعر كمال: تحلق فوقي النسور.. وأنا أهرب من جثتي لجثتي".
"ولما كانت الأندلس تنتظر ابن زياد، فقد صدق له أن المشي يحذف من الطريق ويضيف إلى الأمل، ولذلك فهم عصره أن الذي يمشي فقد بدأ وصوله فعلياً، أما في عصرنا هذا فالذي يمشي، مهما اقترب، لم يتخلص من بعده نهائياً".
من الصعب اختصار ما تحاول هذه الرواية قوله، وهذا يعود إلى طبيعة أحداثها، وخيالاتها التي تدور في السجن، بفضائه الوجودي الأوسع، ليس الزنزانة كموقع، بل كرقعة لا يمكن النظر إليها إلا من خلال علاقات "طوبولوجية" كثيرة ومتشابكة -لا مقدارية ولا كمية- كي تقاس وفقاً لما هو متعارف عليه من مكاييل، فهذه الرواية لا تنظر إلى القيود من أبواب الفولاذ والسلاسل، وإنما من ناحية كبح الإرادة الإنسانية وطاقة الكائن. كما تفترض أن البنية النفسية لإنسان اليوم تقترب من سبعة نماذج تزداد تعقيداً أو تقل حسب المقومات العقلية لكل بشري، وعليه فإن لهذه الرواية ادعاءً قوياً ينبني على فكرة تقترح أن التكوين النفسي للإنسان ما هو إلا مسارات موجودة سلفاً كنتيجة لمجموعة من الطاقات، وهي التي تحدد طبيعة البشري وعقله وما يمكن إنجازه من الخير والشر معاً.
