إن هذا الكتاب يعتمد مقاربة جديدة للتشيع الإمامي عبر إعتماد زاويتي نظر تحاول أن تكمل إحداهما الأخرى، بين رؤية للماضي والتنقيب فيه عن منابع التشيع السياسي وذلك عبر إعتماد المنهج الجينالوجي، وبين التأطير الإيديولوجي للكشف عن الواقع المباشر للتشيع السياسي وتمثلاته الإيديولوجية.
فبين التنقيب عن الجذور الثقافية والسياسية والإجتماعية والإقتصادية المسؤولة عن نسج التشيع السياسي وصيروته، والذي صيغ بوصفه حقيقة دامغة لا مناص منها، على الرغم من كونه من صناعة الغلاة ومقتبساً من أديان وجماعات دينية رافدينية متعددة، فضلاً عن كونه صناعة الفقهاء الشيعة المسيسين لصالح أنظمة بعينها.
وبين الكشف عن الأدلجة التي طالت عقيدة الإمامة وحركتها أو سحبتها من دوائر عقائدية غير متفق عليها إلى دوائر سياسية وإجتماعية لتعبئة الجماهير الشيعية وإعادة تنظيمها، فبين ذاك الأمر وهذا كان (مجتمع اللادولة) هو الحصيلة النهائية التي رافقت التشيع السياسي منذ نشوئه إلى يومنا هذا، ولقد عبر هذا المجتمع عن الفقدان المستمر لحضور الدولة وهيمنتها في ظل تعدد السلطات الذي مزق المجتمعات الشيعية.
