يوثق المفكر البحريني الأستاذ عبد النبي عبد الله الشعلة في هذا الكتاب: "وقفات ومواقف.. وتجربتي مع القلم"، مسيرة خمسة عقود من الزمن، بدأت بوادرها في أوائل سبعينيات القرن الماضي وهي مستمرة حتى اليوم في مجال الكتابة، ويكمن الدافع الأبرز في توثيق هذه المسيرة لإيمان المؤلف بأن التجارب الإنسانية لا تخلو من الدروس والعبر من جهة، وفي مسار يوفر مادة جيدة تستحق القراءة والتأمل من جهة أخرى، وهناك دافع آخر إذ قد يستخلص منها أو يجد فيها فائدة أكبر من يرغب في الانخراط في الكتابة كمهنة أساسية أو كشغف أو كهواية، أو تكون حافزاً يساهم في تشجيع الأقلام الشابة على الإنتاج والمساهمة في تراكم المعرفة والثقافة.
ووفق تبويب المؤلف، تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى قسمين، ضم القسم الأول المقالات التي كتبها خلال العام 2019 وما قبله بانتظام ودون انقطاع بمعدل مقال في الإسبوع، تم نشرها في جريدة "البلاد" البحرينية، وهذا الجزء يتفرع في تنوع مضامين المقالات، فمنها كتابات في الشأن الوطني، ومنها مقالات في الشأن الخليجي والعربي والإسلامي، ومنها كتابات في قضايا عالمية، ومنها المقالات التي تناولت قضايا في الفكر والتاريخ والفن والوقائع، ويبدو جلياً أن المؤلف حرص أشد الحرص على أن يكون العنصر الأساس في هذا التنوع، هو التناول العميق والمعالجة غير التقليدية مما يجعل سلسلة المقالات ذات قيمة معرفية نافعة. أما القسم الثاني فقد أدرجه تحت عنوان "تجربتي مع القلم"، وهو يحتوي على المقالات والمقابلات والتحقيقات التي أجراها في بداية انشغاله أو تعلقه بالصحافة، والتي بدأ في كتابتها منذ العام1971 .
خلاصة مهمة أدرجها المؤلف اقتباساً من مقولة الكاتب المعروف جورج أورويل، مؤلف رائعة (مزرعة الحيوانات): "على الكاتب – أن تكون من أهدافه ودوافعه للكتابة – البحث عن الوقائع الحقيقية وحفظها للأجيال القادمة"، وهو جوهر هذا الإصدار اقتناعاً بالقيمة المرجعية لهذه الخطوة التوثيقية، ودور الأرشفة والتبويب والنشر في إثراء المكتبة العربية.
