يُشكِّل "مُعجَم العادات والتَّقاليد في فلسطين" حَلْقَةً من سلسلة موسوعيَّة - حضاريَّة أعدَّها ابن فلسطين البارّ الأستاذ حسين عليّ لوباني، وهي تتناول مسائل ووُجوهاً ونشاطاتٍ تَتَّصل بقُوَّة وعُمْق بالوَطن السَّليب: فَلسطين.
يفتتح المؤلف معجمه بالتعريف بالعادات أي ما يَعتاده الإنسان ويصبح مألوفاً عنده لكثرة التَّكرار؛ وبالتقاليد أي ما يَتَّصل بالناس من أمور العقائد أو العبادة منقولاً عن السَّلَف، ثُمّ يتناول العلاقة بين العادات والتقاليد من جهة والفولكلور من جهة أخرى، بَعْدَ أن بيَّنَ أن إجماع القَوْم على العادات والتَّقاليد يُحوِّلها إلى أعْراف.
ولأن المُجتمَع الصِّناعيّ أَدْخَل أنماطاً جَديدة من العادات والتَّقاليد، فإنَّنا نعود بحرارة إلى عاداتنا وتقاليدنا كُلَّما شَعرْنا بأنّ الحّداثة تُهدِّد كِياننا.
وهذا المُعجَم وثيق الصلة بــ (مُعجَم المُعتقَدات الشَّعبيّة الفلسطينيّة)، وإنَّ ما دَفَعَ المُؤلِّف إلى إيلاء هذا الموضوع إهتماماً كبيراً، تَعرُّض الشَّعب الفلسطينيّ إلى مُحاولات شَرسة لِطَمس حضارته وثقافته، ولِسَرقة تُراثه وإنتحاله... لذلك عَمَد إلى جَمْع هذا التُّراث، وتجديده، وإعادة نَشْره وفَهْمه، لكي يَبقى سلاحاً حضاريَّاً، نحن بمسيس الحاجة إليه.
يُشكِّل هذا الإسهام، دَعوةً لإحياء العناصر الإيجابيّة من التُّراث لِدَفْع حَركة الصُّمود والتَّطوُّر والتَّطوير، ويُشكّل مِدْماكاً هامّاً في صَرْح ثقافة فَلسطين وحَضارتها، وخَطاً دِفاعيّاً يَحول دون نجاح إسرائيل في تَهميش أو طَمْس أو إلغاء الشَّخصيَّة الفَلسطينيَّة المُتميِّزة بالحركة، والنَّشاط، والإبداع.
