هذا الكتاب يمثِّل هذا الكتاب حلقة في سلسلة أعمال يسعى المؤلف من خلالها إلى التعريف الشامل بسيرة أحد العلماء الأعلام الذين عاشوا بمكة المشرفة في القرن الرابع عشر الهجري؛ وهو الشيخ سليمان بن عبدالرحمن الصَّنِيْع الذي ولد سنة 1323هـ وتوفي سنة 1389هـ، وكانت حياته حافلة بالعطاء في جوانبها كافة منذ نشأته وبداية تعليمه في كـُتـَّاب مسجد الجـُوْدَريَّة، ثم دخوله المدرسة الرُّشْـديَّة، ومدرسة تحسين الخطوط، ثم التحاقه بعلماء المسجد الحرام، ثم بزوغ شمسه وتبلور شخصيته العلمية في مجالات كثيرة، إلى جانب ما اضطلع به من وظائف رسمية. إن الجانب العلميَّ يُعدُّ الجانب الأبرز في حياة الشيخ سليمان الصَّنِيْع، ويأتي الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا محاولة لإبراز ملامح هذا الجانب من خلال إضاءات ووقفات وتأملات في سيرة الشيخ؛ بالحديث عن حبِّه المبكر للمطالعة وجمع الكتب، واتصاله بالعلماء، وبمحاولة الإجابة عن أسئلة مهمة منها: من هم مشايخه؟ وكيف كانت مكانته عند العلماء؟ وما هي إجازاته العلميَّة؟ ومتى تولى المشيخة والتدريس؟ وكيف كانت علاقتُه بالعلماء والمحققين؟ وكيف كان نشاطه في النَّسْخ والتدوين؟ وما مدى معرفته بمنهج التحقيق والتوثيق؟ وما هي جهوده في مجال التأليف والتحقيق؟ ثم الحديث عن تكليفه بإدارة مكتبة الحرم المكِّيِّ، واستناد ذلك التكليف إلى المكانة العلمية للشيخ سليمان رحمه الله. وقد حوى الكتاب في صفحاته الأخيرة جملة من الصور الوثائقية كنماذج لبعض ما ورد ذكره في المتن من انتساخات الشيخ سليمان وتدويناته ومراسلاته.
