إن الشعر ضرب من ضروب القول يتسع لكل غرض ويتناول كل مطلب، والسابق فيه من يذهب به فنوناً ويتشعب له القول فيه شعوباً، وقد أبدع أمير الشعراء أحمد شوقي وفيه نظم قصيدته البردة التي يتغنى فيها بمدح الرسول وإستطاع أن يملك المجد من طرفيه إذ أنه مدح الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وذلك من خلال قصيدة عصماء بلغت فيها بلاغة الشاعر مبلغها، وأحاسيسه ومشاعره في حب الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ووصفه مداها، فهو، وإلى ذلك، لم يقتصر على قرض القريض في ما تجري عليه الأحوال في زمانه، بل هو سار على نهج المتقدمين وانتحى مناحيهم في فنون الشعر، واقتدى بهم في قصيدته هذه بما يسمى بالبديعيات في مدح رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فبلغ أوج الإجادة، ووصل إلى أعلى طبقات القريض، وهي قول الحق، وتقرير الصدق، فتم له بذلك الإحسان الذي عبر عنه أحد الشعراء بالقول: وإن أحسن بيتٍ أتت قائله... بيت يقال إذا أنشدنه صدقاً والشعر إذا كان على هذا الضرب تشاغل به العلماء، وتنافس فيه الحكماء، وأنزله أهل التقى والدين وأصحاب الورع واليقين منزلته في الإجلال والإعظام، فلا غرابة ولا بدع إذ إنبرى لشرح هذه القصيدة من علمت سموّ مكانته، وعلوّ درجته أدباً وعلماً ووقاراً وحلماً وفهماً وإفادة، وتقىً وعبادة، وورعاً وزهداً... شيخ الجامع الأزهر سليم البشري.
وإن هذه القصيدة التي زادت بشرح شيخ الأزهر تألقاً وتوهماً... وإن قصيدة تصنع في مدح الرسول يكون أمير الشعراء ناظمها، لهي جديرة بأن تنحني لها الرؤوس إعظاماً وإكباراً، وتستضيء بنورها الأبصار... وتشفف بها القلوب فتضمها في الشفاف، وتنطوي الصدور على حفظها طيّ الغلاف، ويتلوها العلماء والأدباء على مر الزمان.
"ريمٌ على القاع بين البان والعلم... أصلّ سنك دمي في الأنهر الحرم... رُزِقت اسمح الناس من خلقٍ... إذا رزقت الناس الغدر في الشيم... يا لائقي في هواه والهدى قدرٌ... لو شفّك الوجد لم تَبدْلْ ولم تَلُمِ".
