إن الخطاب مصطلح لساني حديث أخذت ملامحه تتحدد مع إسهامات الشكلانيين واللسانيين، الذين سعوا إلى إيجاد علم جديد للأدب يتخذ من الأدبية موضوعاً له، أي ما يجعل من عمل ما عملاً أدبياً، فظهرت البويطيقا الجديدة التي تُرجمت في العربية بالشعرية والإنشائية، وأصبح الخطاب وخصائصه ومكوناته ضمن موضوعات هذه الأدبية.
وقد استُعمل مصطلح الخطاب في ميدان الدراسات السردية الحديثة، فتولد مصطلح (الخطاب السردي) الذي يُعنى بتحليل الأساليب والطرائق التي تقدم بها الحكاية.
ويسعى هذا البحث إلى تحليل الخطاب السردي في روايات الأديب الراحل الأستاذ عبد الله الجفري – وعناصره المتمثلة في الزمن والصيغ السردية والتبئير، من خلال مدونة تشمل الروايات التي أنجزها خلال مسيرته الأدبية، وهي: جزء من حلم، تلك الليلة، زمن يليق بنا، الحلم المطعون، أيام معها، العاشقان، العشب فوق الصاعقة. ويرجع اختيار الخطاب السردي في روايات الجفري موضوعاً للبحث وذلك لتميّز التجربة الروائية للأستاذ عبد الله الجفري ضمن سياق الخطاب الروائي في السعودية، فللجفري صوته الخاص، وخطابه الذي يميزه من غيره في بناء عالمه الروائي، وفي توظيف التقنيات والأشكال السردية، كما في نزعته الواضحة للخروج من دائرة التقليد في كتابة الرواية، وبخاصة في المرحلة المبكرة من مسيرة الرواية السعودية التي بدأ خلالها نشر أعماله الروائية، بالإضافة إلى أنه واحد من أكثر الروائيين السعوديين نتاجاً، ومع ذلك لم تظهر دراسة تتخصص في دراسة رواياته.
وقد جاء البحث في مقدمة وتمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، وخصص التمهيد للتعريف بالكاتب عبد الله الجفري ونتاجه الأدبي، ثم درس الفصل الأول بنية الزمن.
وخصص الفصل الثاني لدراسة صيغ الخطاب السردي ، وخصص الفصل الثالث لدراسة التبئير وأنواعه الثلاثة؛ الداخلي والخارجي والصفري.
