وقد جاء الكتاب في أربعة أبواب رئيسية، يعالج الباب الأول مسألة توازن السوق، ويناقش النظرية العامة للطلب، والنظرية العامة للعرض، كما يعرف بما يسمى مرونات الطلب والعرض، وكيفية عمل قوى السوق لتحديد التوازن. ويعرض الباب الثاني لنظرية طلب المستهلك الفرد، فيناقش الخطة الإنفاقية للمستهلك ثم نظريتين لإشتقاق منحنى طلب المستهلك الفرد هما نظرية المنفعة الحرية وتحليل منحنيات السواء.
وينتقل الباب الثالث لدراسة العرض، وكيف تحدد الوحدة الإنتاجية حجم إنتاجها كما يتناول بالدرس السلوك الإقتصادي المفترض للوحدة الإنتاجية ثم دالة الإنتاج وإشتقاق دوال التكاليف وأشكال السوق ودوال الإيراد الكلي، وكيفية تحديد توازن المنتج.
أما الباب الرابع فهو بحث في كيفية تحديد أسعار وكميات خدمات عوامل افنتاج وكيفية توزيع المنتج النهائي على أصحاب العوامل التي قامت بإنتاجه، ويعرض الباب الرابع بالتفصيل لنظرية التوزيع ودراسة عرض خدمات عوامل افنتاج وكيفية تحديد أسعارها.
