لعل القارئ قد يستغرب لاستخدام كلمة الريع في دراسة الاقتصاد الرأسمالي فهذا التعبير يستخدم أساساً في علاقات الإنتاج الزراعي وهو نصيب صاحب الأرض من إنتاجها. غير أن تطور الرأسمالية واتخاذها أشكالاً احتكارية جعل مفهوم الريع الاحتكاري مفهوماً متعارف عليه. ومن ناحية أخرى فإن العلاقة بين قيمة السلعة بمعنى كمية العمل المبذول في إنتاجها والسعر الذي تحققه في السوق جعل نظريات القيمة من أول ريكاردو وماركس موضع جدل. الريع الذي يحققه التقدم التكنولوجي ثم الريع من أصول غير عينية كاسم الشهرة والإعلان بجانب الاتفاقات الاحتكارية سواء في البيع أو الشراء يجعل من المهم مراجعة مفاهيم الهجوم على نظرية القيمة.
ومن ناحية أخرى فإن مناقشة مفاهيم القيمة تستتبع مناقشة نظريات التجارة الخارجية من أول ريكاردو إلى هكسكر أولين ثم موضوع التجارة غير المتكافئة. وتأثير هيكل الأسعار العالمية على الدول المتخلفة وإمكانيات التنمية مع التبادل غير المتكافئ.
وبعد ذلك ماذا يتم في مناخ العولمة وشكل الاستعمار الجديد الذي تتعرض له الدول المتخلفة. وأرجو ألا يصدم القارئ من اختلاف ما هو مكتوب في هذا الكتيب مع كثير من المسلمات في علم الاقتصاد الجاري دراسته وتداوله حالياً.
