لعل من دوافع الكتابة في موضوع بحثى هذا، قناعتي بأن شخصية المبدع هى أحد مفاتيح صور لحياة الإنسان في المملكة العربية السعودية، والنموذج الحي، والشاهد الحقيقى لأبعاد تطورات الحياة، فالمبدع يعيش ويرصد ويحلل ويفسر، ويمتلك الجرأة لإظهار المواقف وتقييمها، لذلك فهو المنطلق الأول للوقوف على مضمون أدب أمة وقيمته، إن البحث في حياته من خلال الرواية يضع أيدينا على أبعاد النشأة والتطورات والتحولات فى أوجه الحياة، ومع شعوره بالأمان يزداد صدقاً، وفى كل مرحلة تكشف أطوار حياته قدراً من الواقع لا نجده إلا في (الرواية) ذات الارتباط القوي بحياته، مما يؤدى إلى صياغة تفاصيل حياة الإنسان والأرض والزمان باطمئنان وفق مرجعيات أوجه الحياة.
وإن دراسة ملامح السيرة الذاتية للمبدع من خلال الرواية، والرواية الأولى للمبدع تعطى صورة تكاد تكون متطابقة مع واقع الحياة في المملكة وتدرجها الطبيعى من خلال مرور المبدع بمحطاتها بصور فيها كثير من الانطلاق والعفوية، إن هذه الدراسة، تقف على أقرب الروايات إلى المنزع السير الذاتى، لأن ظاهرة تعالق الروايات بالسير الذاتية في الأدب العربي السعودى رافقت ظهور الفن الروائى. وانهت الدراسة بالرواية الصادرة فى سنة 1999 م، بلغ عدد الروايات موضع الدراسة عشر روايات منتقاه من بين 145 رواية، بلغ عدد صفحات بعض الروايات عن خمسين صفحة، ويزيد بعضها عن ستمائة صفحة، كما تفاوت حجم الصفحات ما بين القطع المتوسط والكبير، كما لا اخفى معاناتى فى مبدعيها على صلة بصورة أو بأخرى بالصحافة فبعضهم له مقالات صحفية، مثل (القصيبى) و (الدمينى) و (الدوسرى)، وكان لهذا الأمر أثره للتسريع بظهور الرواية فالعمل الأول (لمحمد زارع عقيل) نشر مسلسلاً فى (مجلة المنهل)، كما هيأت الصحافة (لسعد الدوسرى) كتابه رواياته. وثمة امر آخر يلفت النظر وهو أن بعض هؤلاء المبدعبن شعراء فى الأساس (كغازى القصيبى ) و( على الدمينى) ومفكرون ونقاد مثل ( الدميني) وبعضهم كانت بدايته مع الرواية من بوابة الشعر، مثل ( الدمنهورى). وهناك اعمال روائية تستحق الدخول فى الدراسة، لكن خشيت ازدياد حجمها والتقصير فى إعطاء الأعمال حقها من البحث والتحليل، كما أن ملامح التشابه بين بعض النصوص المختارة، ووصول بعضها متأخرا جعلنى مستبعدا على مضض.
