المسؤول الأول عن التعتيم على ما جرى في دارفور منذ بداية الحرب هو الحكومة، والثاني هم الصحفيون أنفسهم، فقد شكلوا غيابًا في وقت حرج وبالغ الأهمية، عن جزء من أرض الوطن، يقطنه أهل لنا، تربطنا بهم روابط الإنتماء لهذه الأرض ولهذه السماء، ويربطنا بهم تاريخ مشترك طويل من حسن المواطنة والتداخل والتصاهر، هم ببساطة مواطون سودانيون وجدوا أنفسهم في مواجهة مسلحة مع السلطة الحاكمة، ووجد المواطنون العزل أنفسهم، جزء من ذلك الوضع، رضوا أن أبوا، لكنهم هم من يموتون بعد كل قذيفة، وينزحون عقب كل معركة، ويلجأون ما بين هذه وتلك، فنجد أنفسنا، كإعلام سوداني، نتفرج عليهم، ونسمع أخبار موتهم وحياتهم من الإعلام العالمي، كنت ولازلت ألوم نفسي وقبيلتي "قبيلة القلم" على هذا التقصير، إذ استسلمنا للوضع بسهولة، ولم نجتهد في خلق المبادرات، ولا أقصد بالمبادرات "الكتابة للصحف السودانية" فالرقابة لا تعطي فرصة لنجاح هذا الخيار، ولكنني أعني محاولة البحث عن فضاء آخر بعيدًا عن مقص الرقيب السوداني، ربما في الصحف العربية أو الأجنبية، نعكس وجهة نظر أخرى، ونروس ما حدث كما هو بعيون سودانية.
