يمكن القول أن هذا الكتاب تعبير صادق عن ظروف قاسية عاشها الشعب اللبناني جراء إنقسام بينهم حول القضية الفلسطينية. حينما أذكت الإجتياحات الإسرائيلية حروب الدويلات الطائفية التي حصدت الآلاف وكادت تودي بالوطن إلى التقسيم، فبادر بعض القادة العرب إلى دعوة كافة الأطراف اللبنانية المتنازعة إلى الإجتماع في الطائف وتوصلوا في حينها إلى وضع دستور جديد للبلاد كانت له آثاره ونتائجه الإيجابية والسلبية، أطلق عليه "إتفاق الطائف".
وعن إنقاذ الطائف يقول مؤلف الكتاب "... تكلل ذلك بجهود مضنية بذلها ثلاثة من قادة العرب، العاهل المغربي الملك الحسن وعاهل المملكة العربية السعودية الملك فهد بن عبد العزيز ورئيس الجمهورية الجزائرية الديمقراطية الشعبية الشاذلي بن شديد بتكليف من مؤتمر قمة للملوك والرؤساء العرب عقد في الدار البيضاء بدعم أممي ودولي نادر لإنقاذ لبنان من دوامة الحر وتداعياتها الخطيرة والإنتقال إلى رحاب العيش المشترك".
