طرأت لي فكرة إعداد أطلسي موجز لمرجع أجريكولا باللغة العربية، حيث لم يسبق أن ظهرت أية ترجمات له، أو لأجزاء منه بالعربية حتى الآن. وقد عكفت على ذلك لمدة تزيد عن العام ونصف العام، إلى جانب أعمال علمية وبحثية أخرى. والآن، قد أصبح العرض الأطلسي الموجز بين يدي القارئ المهتم بتاريخ وكلاسيكيات العلوم، وعلى الأخص الجانب التعديني منها.
وتحتوي هذه المقدمة العامة على تعريف بالمؤلف، وتعريف بالمرجع، والمنهج المتبع في إعداد العرض الأطلسي الموجز، وقائمة المراجع المستخدمة، ثم تنتهي بشكر واجب للزملاء الذين تابعوا هذا العمل حتى ظهر في صورته الحالية.
أما عن محتوياته فكانت كالتالي: الكتاب الأول: ردود على المزاعم وبعض الاعتراضات المثارة ضد عمليات التعدين واستخلاص الفلزات ومقارنتها بالأعمال الزراعية من قبل المعارضين، الكتاب الثاني ويتناول البحث عن الخامات واكتشاف تواجداتها، الكتاب الثالث وبه تعيين مواقع وتواجد الخامات وامتداد عروقها أو طبقاتها، الكتاب الرابع ويشمل أعمال مساحة المناجم والقياسات وتحديد حقول المناجم وأسس الشراكة والعمل التعديني وتوصيف للعمالة، أما الكتابان الخامس والسادس فيتناولان إنشاء الآبار ومواقعها وطرق التشغيل في المناجم والأمراض المهنية بين المعدنين وطرق الوقاية منها وعلاجها، ويحتوي الكتاب السابع على طرق أخذ العينات وتحليلها، ويشمل الكتاب الثامن على طرق ومعدات تجهيز الخامات وتركيزها، أما الكتب التاسع والعاشر والحادي عشر فبها بعض طرق فصل الفلزات عن بعضها البعض وتفصيلات الأفران المستخدمة في ذلك، واختص الكتاب الثاني عشر والأخير باستخراج الأملاح من المياه والمحاليل المحتوية عليها وكذلك تصنيع الزجاجيات. وقد بلغت الصور والأشكال في هذا العرض 155 لوحة من إجمالي 294 شكلًا بالمرجع الأصلي.
