يلماز أوزتونا (بالتركية: Yılmaz Öztuna ) كاتب ومؤرخ وصحفي تركي، ولد في 20 سبتمبر 1930م في مدينة إسطنبول التركية، وتوفي في 9 فبراير 2012 في مدينة أنقرة. من أشهر مؤلفاته والتي تُرجمت إلى اللغة العربية كتاب "تاريخ الدولة العثمانية".

يؤرخ هذا الكتاب للإمبراطورية العثمانية متوقفاً عند تاريخها السياسي - العسكري والحضاري مركزاً البحث في التاريخ الصحيح للدولة العثمانية، ولقد حرص بالفعل في هذا الكتاب على أن تركيز البحث في مواطن عديدة منه على الأقطار العربية.
وعندما يطلع القارئ العربي على التاريخ العثماني فإنه يكون بذلك قد أطلع على تاريخه هو لفترة أربعة قرون، وسوف يتذكر وهو يقرأ النظام والدستور السياسي الذي عاشه شعبه لمدة أربعة قرون، وسوف يقرأ كذلك مجريات الأحداث في الإمبراطورية التي هي دولته، ولا شك في أنه سوف يجد إجابات شافية عن كثير من الأسئلة التي بقيت عالقة في ذهنه ولم يجد لها جواباً من قبل.
وكم يحدونا الأمل في أن يكون الكتاب شائعاً، بالنسبة للقراء جميعاً على إختلاف جنسياتهم، وأن يكون أكثر تشويقاً للقارئ العربي بوجه خاص؛ ذلك لأن القارئ العربي قد عاشت أمته في ظل الدولة العثمانية عدة عصور يستوي في ذلك من كان مقيماً في اليمن أو في الجزائر، وهذا أو ذاك كان أبوه أو جده من أفراد تلك الدولة، شعر بشعورها، وعاش مصيرها، وشاركها فعالياتها، وإن كانت هناك أمور أو حالات تعارضت فيها المصالح فمن حقه أن يعرف الأسباب والحقائق التي كانت وراء الاتفاق أو التعارض.
والمجلدين الأول والثاني يعرضان التاريخ السياسي والعسكري للدولة العثمانية، ملقياً الضوء على الإمبراطورية منذ ظهورها إلى إنحلالها، وحتى يسهل على القارئ تفهم كيفية ظهور الدولة العثمانية على مسرح العالم فقد قدمنا لذلك بتلخيص مجمل للمجريات التاريخية للأتراك قبل العثمانية وخارج النظام العثماني.
أما المجلدين الثالث والرابع من هذه الموسوعة فيتناولان الحضارة العثمانية بما يشتمل عليه مفهوم الحضارة من ثقافة وفن وأسلوب حياة.
