إننا في هذا الكتاب نتناول إشكالية رحنا نتوقف من خلالها عند البعد الوجودي والمعرفي لكل من: اللسان, اللغة, الكلام وذلك من زاوية تراثية حداثية. ولدراسة هذه الإشكالية اللسانية وجدتنا ملزمين منهجياً أن نقسم هيكلها الخارجي إلى: مدخل وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة حاولنا أن نلخص فيها أهم ما توصلنا إليه من نتائج وأحكام.
في المدخل حاولنا أن نتوقف عند المرجعية المعرفية لحقل اللسانيات, من حيث المفهوم والموضوع والمنهج, والفصل الأول حاولنا أن نجعله ينصب أساساً حول مفهوم اللسان من حيث التحديد والوظيفة, مقارنة مع ورود اللغة لدى القدامى, وفي الفصل الثاني حاولنا أن نتوقف عند اللغة وهي تتوسط بين اللسان والكلام, وجعلنا الفصل الأخير ينصب أساساً حول ما وسمناه بـ: نحو رؤية علمية للمصطلح.
