إن حياة "أبي بكر رضي الله عنه" صفحة مشرقة من التاريخ الإسلامي، الذي بهر كل تاريخ وفاقه، والذي لم تَحْوِ تواريخ الأمم مجتمعة بعض ما حوى من الشرف والمجد، والإخلاص والجهاد والدعوة لأجل المبادئ السامية، لذلك قام المؤلف بتتبع أخباره وحياته وعصره في المراجع والمصادر، وإستخراجها من بطون الكتب، وقام بترتيبها وتنسيقها وتوثيقها وتحليلها لكي تصبح في متناول الدعاة والخطباء والعلماء والساسة ورجال الفكر وقادة الجيوش، وحكام الأمة وطلاب العلم، لعلهم يستفيدون منها في حياتهم، ويقتدون بها في أعمالهم.
ولقد تتبع صفات الصديق وفضائله ومشاهده في ميادين الجهاد مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وحياته في المجتمع المدني ومواقفه العظيمة بعد وفاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وكيف ثبت الله تعالى به الأمة؟ وسلطت الأضواء على سقيفة بني ساعدة وما تم فيها من حوار ونقاش بين المهاجرين والأنصار.
وقد قام بتوضيح أحداث الردة، فتحدث عن أسبابها وأصنافها، وبدايتها في أواخر العصر النبوي، وموقف الصديق منها في خلافته، وخطته التي وضعها للقضاء عليها وأساليبه التي إستخدمها في حروبه ضد المرتدين؛ هذا وقد بيّن الرسائل التي كانت بين الصديق وخالد بن الوليد، وعياض بن غنم رضي الله عنهم المتعلقة بفتوح العراق، وقد فصل الخطوات التي سار عليها "أبو بكر رضي الله عنه" في فتوحات الشام، فتحدث عن عزمه في غزو الروم ومشورته لكبار الصحابة في جهادهم، وعن إستنفاره لأهل اليمن، وخطته في إرسال الجيوش ووصاياه للقادة الذين بعثهم لفتح الشام، ومتابعته لهم وإمدادهم بالرجال والعتاد والتموين، ونقله لخالد من ميادين العراق إلى قيادة جيوش الشام، ما تمّ في معركة أجنادين واليرموك، واستخرج من حركة الفتوحات بعض معالم الصديق في سياسته الخارجية، من بذر هيبة الدولة في نفوس الأمم.
إن هذا الكتاب يبرهن على عظمة "أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه"، ويثبت للقارئ أنه كان عظيماً بإيمانه، عظيماً بعلمه، عظيماً بفكره، عظيماً ببيانه، عظيماً بخلقه، عظيماً بآثاره، فقد جمع الصديق العظمة من أطرافها، وكانت عظمته مستمدة من فهمه وتطبيقه للإسلام، وصلته العظيمة بالله عزّ وجلّ، وإتباعه الشديد لهدي الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم.
