يحتوي هذا الكتاب على نتف يسيرة من سيرة الخليفة عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه، وهذه أخبار تم انتقاءها من كتب السير والتاريخ المدونة من قبل أئمة وعلماء أهل السنة وتحديداً وهي تغطي كل ما يتعلق بحياة هذا الإمام الكريم وبسيرته، وبآرائه في الحكم وبسياسته فيسو إدارة البلاد الإسلامية، وأحكامه القضائية وبعلاقته بغيره من الصحابة الكرام وتحديداً بالنبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
كما وفي الكتاب وقفات لوفاة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، واتفاقه مع أبو بكر في خلافة الرسول، كلامه بعد البيعة، تركه القراءة في الصلاة، إجلاءه لليهود والنصارى، من الحجاز وإسكانهم الكوفة، رأيه من تفسير بعض الآيات وصيته لأبيه بعدم شرب الخمر، رأيه حول تحريف المصحف، وفاته رضى الله عنه... كما وفي الكتاب وقفة عند بعض الخطب التي ألقاها رضي الله عنه في المسلمينـ وهذه الخطب شملت أول خطبة ألقاها، خطبته في افتتاح مجلس الشورى، خطبته التي جاءت في شدته وغالطته، خطبته في طلب عكة سمن من بيت المال، خطبته من الكلالة، خطبته في تحريم المتعة، خطبته بعد رجوعه من الحج، أخر خطبة ألقاها على المسلمين، وأول كلمة ألقاها بوم ولي على المسلمين، إلى جانب هذا يحتوي الكتاب على خمسون كلمة من كلماته في مختلف المواضيع.
