عُني "عفيف الدين بن علي اليافعي" المؤرخ المتصوف بكرامات الصوفيين وحكاياتهم فعمد إلى جمع قصصهم في هذا الكتاب، الذي جمعه من مصادر عديدة لأئمة كبار من أهل العرفان أمثال: الإمام أبو حامد الغزالي، الإمام أبو القاسم القشيري وغيرهم، فأودع فيه خمس مائة حكاية، وقسمه إلى خمسة فصول جاءت مواضيعها على النحو التالي الفصل الأول: فضائل الأولياء الصالحين، والفقراء والمساكين، مما جاء به القرآن والأخبار والآثار، الفصل الثاني، في إثبات كرامات الأولياء. الفصل الثالث: في الجواب عن أفكار وقع من بعض الفقهاء والمصنفين على الفقراء، الفصل الرابع، في بيان عقيدة المشايخ العارفين الربانيين المكاشفين والعلماء المحققين والأئمة المدققين. الفصل الأخير، في توحيد الرحمن وطرف من طرف الجنان.
