أشعلتُ سيجارةً أخرى، صوَّبتُ بَصَرِي نحو الجزء الشرقي، حيث الحي الأرستقراطي، على اليسار منه حيُّنا الشعبيُّ، وبعد تنفيث بعضٍ من الدُّخان هَدَأَت روحي.
خَفَّفَت الشجرة حِدَّة الحَرّ. في جلستي تلك قَصَدَني زميلي من أبناء الحي الأرستقراطي؛ منذ أيام الدراسة الأوَّلية حتى الجامعة، وما زال مدلَّلاً ومترفاً وأنا أتجنَّبه؛ لأنه دائماً يحسدني على ذكائي، ولو سألني إياه لأهديته له دون تردُّد؛ لانه لم يُسْمِن ولم يَغْنِ من جوع، ولا طَرَدَ ضيوفي الدائمين. حَسَدَنِي جارنا حتى بلغَت به الغيرة مبلغَ أن يفكِّر في التخلُّص مني لأني أضايقه، ولأن والده يقارنه بي، ويَسُبُّه. قَرَّرَ قَتْلَه.
