على الرغم من أن هذا الكتاب يتحدث عن المستقبل، إلا أنه يحتوي إشارة للتقدم التكنولوجي، حيث ركز المؤلف على ذلك الجزء من المستقبل الذي تتميز به إستجابتنا الشخصية وهو ذلك الجزء الذي يتعلق بتحويل الأفكار والأفعال والتصورات، وهو ما يعرف علم النفس المستقبلي، وهو دراسة لكيفية تطور الفرد في ظل الأنظمة المتسارعة، وهو فهم يستند على الانماط المشتركة في كيفية تطور ردودنا لهذه المتطلبات الثقافية الجديدة.
ومع ذلك كله فمن العبث أن نتكلم عن المستقبل ما لم نفهم طبيعة الرحلة التي سنقوم بها ونعيد كتابة الخاتمة، وإلا فإن النهاية ستقوض رؤيتنا للمستقبل، وهذا الكتاب قائم على ثلاث عبارات هي: البحث عن الطريق تضمنها الجزء الأول منه وأدوات الأتصال الثانية تضمنها الجزء الثاني منه، أما الجزء الثالث فقد تضمن الوجه الآخر للمدخل.
