إنّ اختيار كتاب يضم قصصاً منتخبة أمر صعب للغاية ولا شكّ، وهو يتطلب مجهودا كبيراً، فكان لا بدّ لنا من التنقيب في المجموعات القصصية العديدة واختيار الأفضل منها والأقرب إلى ذوق القارئ العربي، وكان لكتاب أنطولوجيا القصة الكردية ذي الألف وسبعين صفحة الذي نشره الأديب والروائي الكردي فرات جوري عام 2003 فضل كبير في إعداد هذا الكتاب إذ كان يضم خمساً وتسعين قصة غطت ما سطره الأدباء الأكراد في نصف قرن من الزمان. كما أننا من جهة أخرى توخينا الدقة في الترجمة والحفاظ قدر الإمكان على روح القصة ولغتها وتقريبها من بيئة اللغة العربية، وحاولنا قدر الإمكان أن تكون الموضوعات التي تعالجها قصصنا المختارة مختلفة في المضمون والسرد والبنية القصصية والتقنيات الحكائية وكلنا أمل في أن يلعب هذا الكتاب دوره المنشود في تعريف القراء العرب بالأدب الكردي عامة والقصة الكردية القصيرة على وجه الخصوص."
