هذا كتاب يرعى واحداً من أشهر كتب النظرية اللغوية عند العرب لا يجادل فى ذلك دارس للعربية وفقيها؛ فكتاب المزهر فى علوم اللغة يعد الحصيلة الخاتمة لحصاد قرون عشرة من دراسة فقه اللغة من منظور الدرس اللغوى العربى. وهو كتاب لم يزل بعد مرور هذا الزمان الطويل على تأليفه قادرا على البقاء لصلاحيته فى كثير من أبواب العلم بفقه هذه اللغة. وربما كان أكثر مصادر فقه اللغة شمولا واستيعابا لقضاياه ومسائله من جانب، كما أنه أكثر هذه المؤلفات التى تعكس تماسك المعارف الإسلامية وتداخلها من جانب آخر ولاسيما إذا ما نظرنا إلى تأثير علم الحديث بتقسيماته وفروعه فى بناء ذلك الكتاب!
والمزهر على ما له من قيمة وخطر نشر محققا على زعم الزاعمون وهو يشكو إهمالاً وتقصيراً فى كثير من أعمال التحقيق.
