إن لكل أمة حضارة وتراث ورثه الأبناء عن الآباء، ونهوض الأمة مقرون بإحياء تراثها، والعرب تميزوا بحضارة عريقة سبقوا بها أمم العالم قبل وبعد الإسلام، فكانت بغداد والحجاز والشام والأندلس ومناطق أخرى من الدولة العربية الإسلامية تعج بالعلماء والشعراء والأدباء وأصحاب الحديث والمؤرخين... فألفوا لنا المؤلفات الكثيرة والتي لا تحصى، والذي وصلنا ليس إلا اليسير بسبب الحروب والنكبات، فها هي بغداد قد فقدت آلاف المؤلفات أيام التتر لجهلهم ولعدائهم للحضارة وهناك أمثلة أخرى عديدة على نحو ذلك.
والمكتبات العربية والعالمية مليئة بالمخطوطات العربية التي إذا ما حققت فإنها ستضيف جديداً إلى تراثنا العربي وستساهم في سرعة نهوض الأمة وتطورها.
وبعد البحث المتواصل وإستشارة المختصين بذلك، وقع إختيار الباحث على تحقيق هذه المخطوطة (تحفة اللطائف في فضائل الحبر عبد الله بن عباس ووجّ الطائف) تأليف جار الله محمد بن عبد العزيز بن عمر بن فهد المكي المتوفى سنة 954هـ، وهي مليئة بأخبار الطائف، وما قيل في تحريم صيد وجّ، وأخبار العباس رضي الله عنه وابنه عبد الله، ومحمد ابن الحنفية، والآثار المباركة في الطائف وما قيل من الأشعار عند زيارة قبر ابن عباس في الطائف.
ورغم أن هذه الأخبار قسم منها متناثر في الكتب المألوفة إلا أن بعض الروايات لم يرد؛ بسبب فقد الروايات أو الكتب التي تحويها.
