ولد "بيتر سلوترديك" في 26 يونيو عام 1947 في "كارلسروه".
ودرس الفلسفة والتاريخ في جامعة "ميونخ"، وحصل علي الدكتوراة من جامعة " هامبورج" عام 1975 ومنذ عام 1980 وهو ينشر مؤلفاته الفلسفية، وأهمها كتاب "نقد العقل الساخر" عام 1983، الأكثر مبيعا في اللغة الألمانية منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية (ترجم إلي اللغة الإنجليزية عام 1987).
وإلي جانب عمله أستاذا للفلسفة وعلم الجمال في جامعة كارلسروه، يعد سلوتردايك من أبرز أعلام النقد الثقافي في أوروبا، ونجح في نقل الفلسفة إلي التليفزيون (ساحة أثينا الجديدة) منذ عام 2002 من خلال قناة الألمانية، التي تستضيف أصحاب الفكر والرأي لمناقشة قضايا المجتمع والعالم برؤية فلسفية ابداعية في برنامجه الشهير "المربع الفلسفي".

لِمَ نقدٌ للعقل الكلبيّ؟... يعني الحديث عن الكلبيّة أن نُخضع لإمتحان النقدِ فضيحةً فكريّة وأخلاقيّة؛ بعد ذلك سنقدّم شروطَ إمكانِ الفاضح... فالعصر الراهن هو برمّته كلبيّ... يعيش النقد بسائر معاني اللّفظ، أيّاماً حالكة ومضطربة.
مرّة أخرى يبتدئ عصر النقد المتنكّر في لباس تخضع فيه المواقف النقديّةُ لأدوار مهنية، نقديّةٌ ذاتُ مسؤوليّة محدودة، تنويريّاتٌ مرصودةٌ بإعتبارها عاملَ نجاح، - هو ذا الموقف عند نقطة تقاطع الإمْتثاليّات الجديدة والطموحات القديمة...
لقد حان وقتُ نقدٍ جديد للأمزجة، حين يبدو التنوير على أنّه "معرفةٌ حزينةٌ"، فإنّه يسهِّل على الرغم منه، الخدَرَ الإكتئابيّ.
لذلك ينتظر نقد العقل الكلبيّ أكثرَ من عملٍ تسلية حيث يُحسَم من البداية أنّه ليس عملاً، بل هو إستراحة من العمل... وإذا كان التنوير يبدو في البداية على أنّه يُفضي بالضرورة إلى خيبةٍ كلْبيّة، فإنّ هذا الطور سرعان ما سيُتجاوَز، وسيصير إمتحانُ الكلبيّة أساساً لإبطالِ الأوهام بكيفيّة مناسبة... فالكلبيّة هي الوعي الزائف المستنير...
