هذا الكتاب يتناول أحوال البلاد العربية في العهد العثماني في الفترة ما بين عامي (1914- 1516) ويعرض بشكل موجز نشأة الدولة العثمانية، ونظام الحكم فيها، وعلاقتها بالوطن العربي، وأساليب الحكم والإدارة التي مارستها أثناء حكمها لهذا الوطن، وأثر ذلك كله على أحوال البلاد العربية السياسية، والاقتصادية، والاجتماعية.
كما يركز بشكل خاص على الاستعمار الأوروبي، ودوافعه للسيطرة على الوطن العربي، وأساليب تغلغله في هذا الوطن خلال القرن التاسع عشر، وحتى بداية الحرب العالمية الأولي، وأثر ذلك على حركة الإصلاحات العثمانية من ناحية، ونهضة مصر وبلاد الشام في عهد محمد على باشا من ناحية ثانية، وموقف الدول الأوربية تجاه تلك النهضة، من ناحية ثالثة حيث عملت جاهدة لإحباطها، لكى تبقى الوطن العربي ضعيفاً، ومفككاً، ومختلفاً.
ويأتي هذا في ست وحدات هى: (دخول الوطن العربي تحت الحكم العثماني، الأحوال العامة للوطن العربي في العهد العثماني، الأطماع الاستعمارية الأوروبية في الوطن العربي خلال القرن التاسع عشر وحتى بداية الحرب العالمية الأولي، تجربة محمد على باشا في مصر وبلاد الشام في القرن التاسع عشر، المقاومة والثورات العربية ضد الاستعمار في القرن التاسع عشر، اليقظة العربية خلال القرن التاسع عشر وحتى الحرب العالمية الأولي).
